Abstract

This research was aimed to get empirical evidence of the improving students’ reading comprehension of narrative text through story mapping technique. The subjects of this research were 22 students of class VIII-5 (control group) and 23 students of class VIII-6 (experimental group) of SMP Negeri 1 Labuhanhaji in the academic year of 2018/2019. The research instruments were test form and questionnaire. The research findings showed that the use of story mapping in teaching reading comprehension of narrative text was able to improve the students’ ability. Based on the quantitative data, it can be found that the score of t0 was higher than the score of ttable in level of 5% where 9.07>2.016. Moreover, based on the students’ answers on the questionnaires of the research that are most of students are interested in learning narrative text by using the story mapping technique, and most of them strongly agreed that the story mapping technique can be applied in order to improve reading comprehension of narrative text to the students. From this research findings, it showed that story mapping technique could improve students’ reading comprehension of narrative text.
