The Use of Humor Text to Motivate the Students in Developing Reading Interest at Darul Ihsan Boarding School

In order to make the class more funny and effective, teachers need to know what students needs. However nowadays, there are still teachers who do not do so. One of the issue is that teachers do not aware of what kind of text that can motivate students in reading interest. Therefore, the researcher conducted this research with the aims to investigate whether humor text can motivate students reading interest and students’ responses toward using humor text to motivate their reading interest.This study used quantitative and qualitative methods. The data were collected by using questionnaire and interview. The result of interview showed that they love to read humor text because it can motivate them to read text in English. Using humor text make the class atmosphere more enjoyable and fun than that of other texts because the content of humor text is entertaining. Further, most students want their teachers use humor text as supplementary material in class.
