Abstract

Resistance is the ability of microorganisms to inhibit the action of antimicrobial agents; this condition can occur when antibiotics lose their effectiveness in inhibiting bacterial growth. However, excessive and irrational use of antibiotics can lead to the emergence of resistant bacteria. The objective of this study was to analyze the sensitivity and resistance of bacteria from broiler chicken cloacal swabs to antimicrobials and to determine the characteristics of antibiotic resistance. This study is a laboratory experimental study with a quantitative descriptive approach, tested using ANOVA and Duncan’s test. Erythromycin showed the highest efficacy with the largest mean clear zone value (8.5017a), followed by 98% alcohol (6.7775ab), amoxicillin (4.0850abc), Vita Chicks (1.2833bc), and Trimezyns (0.000c) as the treatment with the lowest efficacy. Amoxicillin’s position in the middle group indicates that this antibiotic has fairly good inhibitory capacity, though not as optimal as erythromycin. Thus, the use of antibiotics (amoxicillin) at incorrect or inappropriate time intervals can lead to a decrease in the antibiotic’s efficacy. Identifying the bacterial species would significantly enhance the results of this study
