Abstract
This study aimed to describe the implementation of the Motivational Interviewing (MI) technique through group guidance services to improve students' learning motivation at MTsN Mon Malem Aceh Besar and to identify the development of students' learning motivation after participating in the service. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The participants initially consisted of 30 students who were given a learning motivation instrument and observed to obtain an initial description of their learning motivation. Based on the results of the instrument and observations, 8 students were selected as research participants and subsequently participated in group guidance services using the MI technique. Data were collected through observation, interviews, learning motivation instruments, and documentation. Data analysis involved data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. Data validity was established through source triangulation, technique triangulation, and member checking. The findings indicated that the implementation of MI through group guidance helped students explore learning barriers, understand ambivalence, identify personal reasons for change, strengthen self-confidence, and develop plans for change. Supporting measurement results showed an increase in the average learning motivation score from 42.88 before the service to 80.38 after the service. Initially, all students were categorized as having low learning motivation, whereas after participating in the service, 6 students (75%) were categorized as high and 2 students (25%) as moderate. Thus, the implementation of the Motivational Interviewing technique through group guidance services can serve as an alternative guidance and counseling service to help students develop learning motivation.
