Abstract
Children growing up in the absence of their caretakers, in many cases in Indonesia, tend to be actors of juvenile delinquency or end up in the street life or homeless. Hence, proper care and education for them are a must (sine qua none). This article describes framework of education and care in the absence of main caretakers in the perspective of Acehnese culture. The article concludes that the community of Aceh has their own local wisdom in educating and caring to those children without main caretakers, so that despite the absence of either both parents or one of them, the needs of children to clothing, food, shelter, health, education and love can still be fulfilled.
