Abstract

The research was accomplished to explore English teachers’ perceptions on using the situational language teaching method in teaching vocabulary. This research was completed by using a qualitative approach and the researcher used a purposive sampling technique to collect the data. The aims of this study are to investigate the advantages of using the situational language teaching method in teaching vocabularies and to investigate English teachers’ challenges of using situational language teaching methods in teaching vocabularies The participants were five English teachers who teach English subject at Elementary school in Aceh Barat. The finding of this research showed that the advantages of using this method; include enhancing students’ motivation and creating an effective teaching-learning process. Then, the challenges of using situational language teaching methods in teaching vocabulary are to prepare course material and to deal with students’ boredom.
