Abstract

The purpose of this study is to find out the teachers’ questioning strategies in teaching EFL classroom and to know the way students’ respond towards teachers’ questions. This study applies observation technique where the population is all of the third semester students of English department of UIN Ar-Raniry and the sample are 35 students and 1teacher. The data are collected by the observation analysis. The data are analyzed by using qualitative method. The result shows that the teacher used four types of questions based on Blosser (1975) and Cunningham’s (1987) model in the teaching learning process. The teacher used all of four types of questions (Conceptual questions, Structuring questions, Probing questions and Evaluative questions) in the teaching learning process. Even so, the teacher mostly used structuring question and conceptual question.
