Abstract
WhatsAppis a trending tool that ultimately being used in academic contexts. WhatsApp allows people easily interact with one another by sharing messages, images, audio, and documents. This study aims to find out the student’s perception on the use of WhatsApp Application for online learning. It also related to the advantages and the disadvantages of using this application. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive and the participants in this study were six students of MTsN 5 Pidie who have used WhatsApp application for online learning during pandemic COVID 19. This qualitative research used purposive sampling to obtain the data through interview and the result showed that WhatsApp is an easy and practical learning platform due to easy access. Moreover, this study found based on student’s perception on the use of WhatsApp application for online learning, WhatsApp usage does not give maximum result. Some students have difficulty in understanding the material provided by the teacher, lack motivation in learning due to boredom in online classroom. From the obstacles experienced by students, it becomes a challenge for students and teacher. Teacher needs to findright solutionswhen carrying out online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.
