Abstract

ABSTRACT
The general objective of this research is to find out the trauma and its handling of victims of armed conflict in Asia (Aceh Indonesia and Southern Thailand). Specifically, to find out: Forms of trauma; Support from Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs); Support from Government; Handling trauma that has been received; and, Differences in trauma and handling of victims. The method used is descriptive comparative. The results of the study: trauma and handling differed between Aceh and Southern Thailand, although it was not obvious. This is seen from the data that Aceh experienced physical, psychological, and sexual trauma, while Southern Thailand experienced physical and psychological trauma. NGO support in Aceh focuses on logistical, economic, and psychosocial crisis; while in Southern Thailand, there are more supports for orphans, education and human rights advocacy. Government support in Aceh was carried out based on the mandate of the Helsinki MoU and UUPA through BRA and the KKR, conversely, in Southern Thailand support was provided after the court ruling. For the handling of the the trauma that the victim had received is that in Aceh some victims were referred to BP3A and NGOs Pulih, while in the Southern of Thailand, stressed victims were referred to a hospital psychiatrist. In term of the difference in trauma experienced by victims, in Aceh, physical trauma was visible, such as, cigarette wounds, nail punctures, stabbing. Contradicted to that, in Southern Thailand these physical wounds were not visible, because the incarceration was carried out on a plywood base, so the victims did not show any internal injuries. The treatment should also be different, but because it has not been done so far, the researcher has difficulty in declaring the difference.
