Abstract

In a broad sense, language and speech are not simply statement, which is the simple communication. Rather, they often do things, or have meanings other than their semantic or syntactic content would imply. Some of the information communicated is explicitly stated. Other times it is implicit or merely implied by a statement. Thus, at most cases, semantics per se is not enough to explain what the speaker of the utterance wants to convey. It needs for pragmatic for a further explanation.
