Abstract

This research is conducted with the purpose of analyzing the types and meaning of idiomatic expression in Pride and Prejudice movie based on Lim theory. The source of data was the script of movie entitled “Pride and Prejudice (2005)” by Joe Wright. To accomplish the goals, a content analysis of qualitative design was used in this study. The research data collected through document analysis. In collecting the data, the researcher was searching for the movie, watching, and understanding the movie completely. After collecting the data, the researcher proceeded to do data preparation, data reading, data confirmation, and calculation to deliver the data analysis. The findings of this study showed that there are 160 idiomatic expressions found in Pride and Prejudice (2005) movie. The types of idiomatic expressions with the total of six idiomatic expressions according to Lim (2004) were all found in the Pride and Prejudice movie and identified as 37 phrasal verbs with the percentage of 23,1%, 19 prepositional phrases with the percentage of 11,8%, 47 idioms with verb as the keywords with the percentage of 29,3%, 30 idioms with noun as the keywords with the percentage of 18,7%, 23 idioms with adjective as the keywords with the percentage of 14,3%, and 4 idiomatic pairs with the percentage of 2,5%. The most dominant types of the idiomatic expressions used in Pride and Prejudice movie (2005) was idioms with verb as the keywords and the least one found in the movie was idiomatic pairs.
