Abstract

This study aims to know the barriers that faced by English department students of UIN Ar-Raniry when translating Indonesian to English text, and to know what are the creative solutions that they found to make the translation better. This study used qualitative method and the data was conducted by analysing seven students’ translation products. The participants were conducted by using purposive sampling method; English department students of UIN Ar-raniry batch 2017 who have already taken translation tools and project class. The students ware given one Indonesian text and asked to translate the text into English. The finding of this study showed that the students found issues in word class, word order, pragmatic aspects, and word-choice problems. Meanwhile, to solve the problems, the students prioritized the delivery of meaning and selected the proper translation type to make the reader understand the meaning of the text althought there are some issues in the writing.
