Abstract

Along with the essential of learning English, every students are able to learn English including students with hearing impairment problem. This study aims to identify the strategies used by teacher and the challenges perceived in teaching concrete noun to students with hearing impairment in senior high school level. This qualitative research used structured interview to find the result while the participant was a teacher from SMA SLB Bukesra Banda Aceh who have been taught students with hearing impairment in senior high school level. The result of this study were transcribed and analyzed using open coding analysis to find the objectives. The result showed that there were four strategies used by teacher namely; Sign-language, Lip- Reading, Pictures and Students’ Help. While the challenges were; Non-Professional teacher, Lacking of Facilities, Language Barrier, Overly-High Syllabus Standard, and Students’ Individual Problem.
