Abstract

This research is aimed to find out out the effectiveness of using storytelling technique and word maps method in improving the students’ ability in vocabulary at the first year students of SMPN 2 Indrajaya. The sample of this study was the students of VII.8 class who are consisting of 21 students. To achieve the goal of this study, the researcher did experimental teaching. It was carried out in one class pre-test and post-test design as an experimental class. The result of the research showed that there was improvement of students’ vocabulary where the mean score of pre-test was 74, and the post-test was 81. The score proved that the mean scores of post-tests were higher than pre-tests. It means that the improvement was 91%. This also indicated that the teaching by using Storytelling Technique and Word Maps Method can be applied as one of technique and method to improve students’ vocabulary.
