Abstract

This research aimed to determine the correlation between students’ interest in English songs and their listening skills. This researcher employed a correlational method by using a quantitative approach. This research has two variables: students’ interest in English songs as the independent variable (variable X) and students’ listening skills as the dependent variable (variable Y). The students’ interest in English songs was obtained from the questionnaire, while the students’ listening skills were obtained from a test result. The sample of this research involved 20 active students in the academic year 2020/2021 of the English Education Department in UIN Ar-Raniry. The sample was taken by using a purposive sampling technique. The finding found that the mean of the scores of the student’s interest in listening to English songs is 55.65. The mean of the student’s listening skills test scores is 18.2. From the result of the correlation calculation by SPSS 21, it can be seen that the correlation value is 0.360 with a significance level of 0.001, which is interpreted as a positive correlation. As a result, the null hypothesis is rejected, and the alternative hypothesis is accepted
