Abstract

Listening skill is an important skill that should be mastered by the students in learning English as a foreign language. A better listening skill can help students to understand the spoken language better especially for absorbing the information. However, listening skill categorized as a difficult skill to be mastered by the students in school especially if the media use is not interesting. Thus, using video learning as learning media can be an appropriate solution. Then, this study was conducted to find out the effectiveness of video learning such as animated video, related video to learning listening as a media to improve students’ listening skill. The participants in this research were students of senior high school in MAN 3 Kota Banda Aceh. The research instruments used to find out the data were pre-test, post-test and teaching experiments. After obtaining the data, it was analyzed by using SPSS application 23 for windows. The result showed that the means score of Post-test in Experimental Class was 82.44 which was higher than means score in Pre-test scoring 68.84. The result also revealed that the difference of means score of Post-test in Experimental class was 68.84 which was 3.76 times higher than the mean value in Control Class scored 65.08. it indicated that alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. In conclusion, the use of learning videos could improve students’ listening ability.
