Pengemis di Banda Aceh: Lakon Diri dalam Konsep Dramaturgis

The existence of beggars in Banda Aceh is one phenomenon that recently became a social problem and has lasted a long time and a negative impact on regional development. Many beggars have come from various regions to this city and which is finally becoming a central activity of begging. Although the government has taken various patterns of countermeasures, those have effectively not worked. It is because the model of countermeasures is partially carried out without focusing on how to improve their quality live of the beggars. This study is to reveal what charactenstics and social live of the beggars in Banda Aceh. This study used a qualitative approach, data collection is done by observation and interviews. Area of this study focused on some locations in Banda Aceh. The results showed several characteristics of the beggars in Banda Aceh. Those are less educated and low skills, those are very diverse, consisting of elderly to children. Physically they are defected, paralyzed, blind, and some are normal. Meanwhile their social life and interaction models show that in carrying out activities those beggars require different strategies and adaptation to the environment. In order to attract public impression of various behaviors, they played dramaturgis very well and sustainably. In the future, the government needs to apply a more comprehensive and integrated countermeasures model with variety of developing programs based on the problems faced by the beggars. This is particularly relating to the development of character, mental and moral of beggars. Finally through this model the moral values can be well adopted and motivate them to leave their habit as beggars and to live as normal and dignified people.
