The problem often faced by students in reading comprehension is they feel difficult when they want to obtain information and understand the meaning of reading text. Implementing an appropriate strategy is very important to overcome this problem and increase student ability in the learning process, especially in reading comprehension. Collaborative learning is a suggested method that allows and trains students to improve their abilities in learning by working in groups so they can share their ideas with their partners. This study used Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) on reading comprehension of descriptive text. This study was conducted to find out if the implementation of the technique affects students' English achievement in reading comprehension. This research was a kind of experimental study with a quasi-experiment in that one class was an experimental class and the other one was a control class. The sample used in this study was 45 second-grade students of IPA-1 (N=23) and IPA-2 (N=22) of MAN 2 Aceh Tenggara. The results of this study show that the mean score of the post-test of the experimental class (83,04) was higher than the pre-test of the experimental class (57,39) with a gain score was (25.64). The T-test revealed that the result was determined by p <0.05, p =0,000. Thus, H1 was accepted. This research concluded that the Collaborative Strategic Reading (CSR) technique affects students’ English achievement of reading comprehension of second-grade students of MAN 2 Aceh Tenggara.
