Abstract

In learning a foreign language, vocabulary plays an important role. It is one of the elements of language that links the four skills; speaking, listening, reading and writing all together. In order to communicate well in a foreign language, students should acquire an adequate number of words and should know how to use them accurately. The use of vocabulary learning strategies is one crucial factor that affects the success of foreign vocabulary acquisition. This research focused on students‟ perception of learning vocabulary through Jumble words. Therefore, jumble words as a technique in learning vocabulary where the students asked to arrange the words that have been random to the correct order. The aims of this study are to find whether the students have capability on vocabulary mastery through Jumble words, to investigate advantages in learning vocabulary through Jumble words and to know how students‟ perception about Jumble words vocabulary learning. Classroom observation and interviews with five students were conducted in one day. Research findings show some perceptions of each student about learning vocabulary through Jumble. Learning vocabulary through Jumble words is a good technique to improve students’ capability, although for those who are not really interested with the learning technique still argued that confusing and they are not feeling good, but for more students do not think so. These findings also found that learning vocabulary has given many advantages for student in comprehending the word order and could arrange some words to be correct sentence, also some challenges faced by students for example they could understand the words meaning, arrange the word carefully and last follow the instruction well.
