Abstract

This study explores the difficulties faced by English teachers in designing Modul Ajar based on the Kurikulum Merdeka. Through qualitative interviews with teachers at SMAN 5 Darussalam, the study revealed that the most challenging components to adapt were the integration of the Pancasila Student Profile, differentiated learning styles, time allocation, learning models, assessments, and especially administrative aspects of the Kurikulum Merdeka. Although teachers encountered various challenges in designing the Modul Ajar, they also developed their solutions, such as attending webinars, collaborating with fellow English teachers, and imitate example Modul Ajar from online. Unfortunately, unlike in previous curricula, the government has not provided sufficient support, such as formal training programs, for the Kurikulum Merdeka. These findings highlight the urgent need for teacher training and support facilities, particularly in the development of Modul Ajar, to effectively implement the Kurikulum Merdeka and enhance the quality of English instruction.
