This study aimed to identify the difficulties students face in reading tests. The participants were chosen through a random sampling method. The study focused on eleventh-grade students at SMA 7 Takengon because their reading test scores were relatively low. A quantitative research method was used, and data were collected through a close-ended questionnaire. A total of 61 students from three different classes participated in this research. The findings revealed that a significant number of students struggled with various aspects, including: 1) limited vocabulary, 2) the lack of Reading skill, 3) the insufficient of background knowledge of students , and 4) external factor affecting their ability to read, such as time constraints and a lack of motivation to engage with the material.
