Abstract
This thesis discusses the analysis of Grice's Cooperative Principle formed in conversation. This study was conducted using a qualitative method. This analysis specifically discusses maxim violations in speech, which are explained in four types, namely maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of relationship, and maxim of manner. The data of this study are the speech of the characters in the movie Knives Out. The findings show that the total of the types of flouting maxim found in the Knives Out movie is The total of flouting of maxim quantity in the movie Knives Out is 6 (14.63%) utterances, flouting of maxim of quality as many as 10 (24.39%), flouting of maxim of relation as many as 14 (34.15%) utterances, and flouting of maxim of manner as many as 11 (26.83%) utterances. One of the most dominant types of flouting maxim in the Knives Out movie is the flouting of maxim relation type with 14 (34.15%) utterances, then next the most dominant flouting maxim is the flouting maxim of manner as many as 11 (26.83%) utterances, then followed by the type of flouting maxim of quality with 10 (24.39%), and the last is the type of flouting maxim of quantity as many as 6 utterances (14.63%).
