This study explores the use of metaphor in the Holy Qur’an, specifically in chapter Hud, with the aim of identifying the types of metaphors used and analyzing their referents. Metaphor is a kind of figurative language that compares two different things without using “like” or “as”. The concept of metaphor is first introduced through the framework of Lakoff and Johnson’s (1980) Conceptual Metaphor Theory to provide a general theoretical foundation. However, the classification of metaphors in this study follows the theory proposed by Al-Azzawi (2019), which includes implied, orientational, and conceptual metaphors.. This study used a Qualitative Systematic Literature Review (QSLR) approach and was supported by a descriptive qualitative analysis. The data were taken from 123 verses of Surah (chapter) Hud in the English translation by Muhammad Asad. Metaphorical expressions were identified, categorized, and interpreted using relevant references such as Ibn Kathir’s tafsir and Hans Wehr’s dictionary. The findings revealed 16 metaphorical expressions: 5 implied metaphors, 5 orientational metaphors, and 6 conceptual metaphors. These metaphors serve to convey deeper spiritual and moral messages by presenting abstract ideas in a more concrete and accessible form.
