Abstract

This study analyzes the obligation of zakat on non-seasonal agricultural products, particularly in hydroponic cultivation systems, through a review of the provisions of nisab and haul in Islamic law. The approach used is a normative-juridical approach with a literature study method of primary and secondary legal sources. This study aims to contribute to the development of zakat law, which does not yet specifically regulate modern cultivation systems such as hydroponics. The results of the study indicate that hydroponic characteristics such as repeated harvest cycles, profit orientation, and intensive business patterns are more relevant to be categorized as objects of trade zakat ('urūḍal-tijarah) than agricultural zakat (al-zurū' wa al-thimār). The ideal zakat calculation formulation in this context is based on the nisab of 85 grams of gold with a zakat rate of 2.5%, which must be paid after one full year of ownership (haul). The recommendations from this study are expected to contribute to the development of contemporary zakat jurisprudence, as well as serve as a reference in the preparation of zakat regulations that are more adaptive and responsive to the dynamics of the modern agricultural system.
