Abstract
An interview with one of the biology teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Aceh Besar revealed issues with the implementation of the independent curriculum, where in the classroom learning process, students are less competitive, as evidenced by their participation. This study aims to determine the effect of the independent curriculum on students' interest in learning about viruses. The method used is quantitative, with the population in this study being all students of class X at SMA Negeri 1 Aceh Besar, and the sample in this study consists of 34 students using purposive sampling. The technique used to collect data is a questionnaire, with the instrument being a questionnaire sheet. The data analysis technique uses percentage formulas. The research results indicate that the independent learning curriculum has a significant effect on students' interest in learning about viruses. Based on the data obtained from interviews, observations, and also questionnaires, it shows that the level of students' interest in learning about viruses at SMA Negeri 1 Aceh Besar is categorized as very high with a score of 80.
