Marriage among female students during their study period has become an increasingly visible socio-religious phenomenon in Islamic higher education institutions, including UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh. This study aims to analyze the motivating factors and impacts of student marriage during the study period from the perspective of hifz al-‘ird as part of the objectives of Islamic law (maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah). This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive- analytical method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with three active female students at UIN Ar-Raniry who married during their academic period, selected using purposive sampling. The findings indicate that the main factors encouraging student marriage include the desire to preserve personal dignity, family encouragement, mental and emotional readiness, realistic economic considerations, and personal motivation to gain a supportive partner. From the perspective of hifz al-‘ird, marriage is perceived as an effective means of safeguarding honor and dignity from relationships that contradict Islamic values. However, marriage during the study period also generates multidimensional impacts, particularly challenges in time management, reduced academic focus, and limited social interaction. These findings suggest that although student marriage during the study period aligns with the principle of hifz al-‘ird, it may create tension with other objectives of Islamic law, especially hifz al-‘aql, thus requiring careful balance and effective management.
