Abstract

The study aimed at understanding the EFL students’ perception on the use of Google Translate in English writing. The research followed a qualitative approach and gathered data through semi-structured interviews. Ten interviewees, specifically students from theacademic year 2019, were purposively selected to participate. The findings revealed that Google Translate proved beneficial to students in various aspects of English writing, including comprehension of texts, construction of sentences and paragraphs, enhancement of vocabulary, spell-checking, and pronunciation assistance. However, some students encountered difficulties with the accuracy of grammar and meaning when using Google Translate. While the majority of students reported that Google Translate had a positive impact on improving their English writing skills, two students expressed that it had no noticeable effect.
