Termite Habitat Occurrence and Taxonomic Identivication on the UIN Ar-Raniry Campus, Banda Aceh

This study aimed to record the habitat occurrences of termites (Blattodea: Isoptera) within the UIN Ar-Raniry Banda Aceh campus area and to identify the termite taxa based on their morphological characteristics. The research was conducted in May 2026 using an exploratory survey with a targeted sampling approach focusing on habitat features displaying visible or potential termite activity (living trees, dead trees, and woody materials). Collected specimens were preserved in 70% ethanol and identified morphologically. The survey yielded occurrence records across 26 targeted habitat observation points, comprising 18 active presence records and 8 inactive trace records. Active occurrences were primarily recorded on living trees, dead trees, and outdoor woody materials. Morphological identification confirmed the presence of Coptotermes sp. (worker and soldier castes) and Nasutitermes sp. (soldier caste). These occurrence records baseline the presence of termites on campus, where woody vegetation and lignocellulosic materials serve as functional microhabitats.
