The Perceived Influence Of The Bbc Learning English Materials On Acehnese Efl Students’ Listening Skills

This study aimed to explore Acehnese EFL students’ perceptions of the influence of BBC Learning English materials on their listening skills. This study employed a descriptive qualitative design involving six students from the English Language Education Department at UIN Ar-Raniry who were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using reflective thematic analysis. The findings reveal five major themes: perceived improvement in listening skills through authentic English exposure, perceived language development through BBC Learning English, perceived enhancement of confidence and motivation, perceived usefulness of English learning media and BBC Learning English features, and perceived promotion of learner autonomy despite remaining challenges. Overall, the participants perceived BBC Learning English as a valuable learning resource that supported their listening development through authentic English exposure, vocabulary enrichment, increased confidence and motivation, and independent learning. However, participants also reported challenges, including fast speech, unfamiliar vocabulary, accent variation, and maintaining consistency in listening practice. The findings indicate that BBC Learning English materials have the potential to support listening development while also enhancing learners’ overall language learning experiences through authentic language exposure, vocabulary development, motivation, and learner autonomy.
