This study aims to analyze the character of the main protagonist, Jabir, in Kamil Kailani’s short story Kanz Al-Syamardal using a structural approach. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method, which involves collecting data through intensive reading and note-taking on the short story text, followed by identifying, classifying, and describing data related to the main character’s personality. The primary data source is the text of the short story Kanz Al-Syamardal, while secondary data sources were obtained from scientific journals, academic articles, and relevant references. The theory used for analysis is the theory of main character characteristics proposed by Edgar V. Roberts, which encompasses four methods of character analysis: what the character says about himself, what the character does, what other characters say about him, and what the author says about the character. The results of this study indicate that Jabir possesses a variety of positive character traits. He is portrayed as a responsible, hardworking, modest, unselfish, forgiving, and trustworthy person. These character traits are revealed through his speech, actions, the assessments of other characters, and the author’s direct depictions. This study confirms that a structural analysis using Roberts’s theory can scientifically and systematically reveal the depth of characters in Arabic literary works. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the development of Arabic literary research, particularly in the analysis of characters in the works of Kamil Kailani.
