Strategies of Islamic Boarding School to Improve Students' English Vocabulary and Pronunciation

This study explores the strategies implemented at an Islamic boarding school to improve students’ English vocabulary and pronunciation, their implementation, and their effectiveness based on students’ perceptions. Using a qualitative descriptive design, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with the head of the language department, two language supervisors, and five students at Dayah Ruhul Islam Anak Bangsa (RIAB), Aceh Besar. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings identified six strategies: Daily Vocabulary Repetition, Conversation Practice (Muhādatsah), Corrective Feedback,Daily English Conversation, Audio Listening, and Educational Punishment. These strategies were integrated into daily language programs and supported by continuous practice, teacher guidance, and English use in everyday activities. Students generally perceived the strategies as effective in supporting their vocabulary and pronunciation development. Although some difficulties remained,regular practice and a supportive language environment helped students develop their English skills
