Abstract

This study investigated the implementation of animated videos to improve students’ mastery of action verbs in the fifth grade of elementary school students. The study was conducted because many elementary students still experienced difficulties in understanding and remembering English vocabulary, particularly action verbs, due to limited vocabulary exposure and the use of conventional teaching methods that often reduced students’ motivation and participation during classroom learning. Therefore, the researcher implemented animated videos as interactive learning media to create more engaging and meaningful vocabulary learning experiences. This study aimed to determine whether the implementation of animated videos significantly improved students’ mastery of action verbs and to measure the extent of students’ vocabulary improvement after the treatment. This study used a quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The participants of this study were fifth-grade students selected through a purposive sampling technique. The instrument used in this study was a vocabulary test consisting of 15 multiple-choice questions related to action verbs. The data were collected through pre-test, treatment, and post-test procedures. The findings showed that students’ post-test scores were higher than their pre-test scores after the implementation of animated videos. The paired samples t-test analysis indicated that the significance value was lower than 0.05, meaning that the implementation of animated videos significantly improved students’ mastery of action verbs. In addition, the N-Gain score analysis showed that students experienced moderate improvement, indicating that animated videos effectively supported vocabulary learning. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that animated videos are effective learning media for improving elementary students’ mastery of action verbs because they help students understand vocabulary more easily through visual and contextual learning activities.
