Student’s Difficulties in Paraphrasing English Texts

This study explored thestudents’difficulties in paraphrasing English text in their writingand how they deal with their difficulties whenwriting academically. Mixed methods wereused in this study to answer the research questions. The instruments of this study was paraphrasing test, questionnaires, and interview. 30 students participated in this study. The study showed that most of students have difficulties in paraphrasing English text because of culture and other difficulties such as difficult to changestructures of ideas, changewords, changeword order, changesentence structures,lack of vocabulary, and lack of knowledge of paraphrasing. The solutions are practicing more, looking for additional sources about paraphrasing, asking someone who master inparaphrasing skill, sharing with friend, do not looking the original text.In conclusion, English students have variety difficulties in paraphrasing English text and they know the solutions on how to deal with their own difficulties.
