Tulak Breuh Sebagai Ritual Kematian di Kalangan Masyarakat Ulee Kareng Banda Aceh

This article is the result of research conducted in 2009 in the District of Banda Aceh's Ulee Kareng. The main focus of research is tulak Breuh rite practiced by some communities in the region. Tulak Breuh performed on the day of death or when the corpse was still in the funeral home. However, not all people do so, due to differences in their views on these rites. This interesting phenomenon to be explored with a view: first, to determine the causative factor that encourages the implementation of tulak Breuh on the day of death of a Muslim and secondly, to determine the public response to the implementation of the rite in question. The results show that at least there are two factors that drive some people Ulee Kareng tulak Breuh ritual. The first factor is interpreted as fidyah tulak Breuh prayer. The second factor to obtain inner peace for the officers, in this case children or relatives of the deceased. Associated with the public response to tulak Breuh, some of them even agreed to become officers, while quite a lot of others do not agree with the practice. However, so far the two groups understand each other differences of opinion, so as not to ca use social disharmony mauapun open conflict between communities.
