Abstract

There are two main purposes navigated in this study; firstly, it was to investigate the teacher-student relationship in English teaching-learning process; secondly, it was to find out whether there was a correlation between these relationships. Questionnaire and interview were used to discover the influence of relationship between English teacher and students, and the problems that students faced during their interactions with the teachers. 22 statements of questionnaire and 5 questions of interview were responded. They were then analysed by using Likert scale, the Pearson Product-Moment correlation-coefficient, and Miles and Huberman’s (1994) model. The result suggested that in SMPN 2 Sakti, significant correlation appeared between teacher-student relationship and teaching-learning process, with the raw score of 0,745 that refer to high correlation. tcounted was higher than ttable (4,784≥2,100); while at SMPN 1 Keumala, there had no significant correlation detected between the two variables with the raw score of 0,401 referring to moderate correlation. tcounted was lower than ttable (2.004≤2,097). This research is expected to have beneficial impact on English teaching-learning process especially in the areas of the two schools, as well as the teachers and educators from other institutions spread in Aceh and in Indonesia in general.
