Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine whether the use of TikTok advances critical thinking in student speaking skills. Employing a quantitative descriptive method, data were collected through a questionnaire with 20 questions divided into two categories: speaking and critical thinking enhancement through TikTok. The questionnaire was distributed to 73 English education students at Universitas Islam Negeri Ar-Raniry. Results showed that 77.9% of students agreed TikTok helps them brainstorm ideas and think creatively, employing various critical thinking types aligned with the content consumed. Additionally, 74.1% reported improvements in vocabulary, fluency, and creative idea generation. While most students held positive perceptions of TikTok as a learning tool, Spearman's Correlation Test revealed a moderate positive correlation (0.509) between speaking ability and critical thinking, though not statistically significant. Linear regression analysis further indicated that speaking contribute to critical thinking development (coefficient: 1.012). These findings suggest TikTok can be an effective tool for enhancing critical thinking and speaking skills, though its strategic and intentional use is essential to maximize its educational benefits.
