Abstract

Abstract— Engineering education requires an approach that not only emphasizes theoretical understanding but also focuses on practical skills through hands-on experiences. This study aims to develop a Project-Based Learning (PjBL) teaching module integrated with a Pelton water turbine teaching aid on the topic of alternative energy. The background of this research stems from the limited use of applicable digital learning media in higher education, particularly in the Renewable Energy course. The method used is Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE development model, which includes five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Research instruments included expert validation sheets (content, media, and language) and student response questionnaires, analyzed using a descriptive quantitative approach with a five-point Likert scale. Validation results showed that the module received a feasibility score of 86% from the content expert (very feasible), 64% from the media expert (feasible), and 80% from the language expert (very feasible). Meanwhile, student responses indicated a feasibility score of 83%, categorized as very feasible. The module was found to present the material systematically, use language that is easy to understand, and include project activities that enhance students’ active participation. Additionally, the use of a Pelton water turbine model as a teaching aid helped students gain a better practical understanding of energy conversion. In conclusion, this PjBL-based teaching module is proven to be feasible and effective for use in alternative energy learning and serves as a solution to bridge the gap between theory and practice in engineering education.
