Peran Lembaga Adat Dalam Penyelesaian Perceraian Di Desa Lhok Dalam

This study aims to analyze the authority, effectiveness, and practical procedures of customary institutions in resolving divorce cases in Lhok Dalam Village, Peureulak District, East Aceh. This research employs a qualitative method with data collection techniques including interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings show that the customary institution holds moral and social authority in handling marital disputes before they proceed to the Syariah Court. The resolution process involves deliberation, religious advice, and attempts at reconciliation (islah). Customary mediation is considered effective in reducing conflict, preventing divorce, and preserving family harmony and social dignity within the community. However, its effectiveness remains limited in legal terms, as customary decisions do not have formal binding power under state law. Therefore, strengthening customary institutions through proper documentation, mediator training, and cooperation with the Syariah Court is necessary.
