Abstract
This research aims to analyze the meaning of loyalty in the short story Işlah AlQubūr by Najib Mahfouz. The focus of the research is on revealing the forms of loyalty represented through the characters, plot, and conflicts of the story. The research method employed is a qualitative descriptive approach using the literary sociology framework proposed by Wellek and Warren, which views literary works as reflections of the relationship between the author, the work, and society. The research data consists of textual data from the short story “Işlah Al-Qubūr” by Najib Mahfuz, which illustrates the attitudes and actions of the characters regarding the value of loyalty. The results of the study indicate that loyalty in this short story is interpreted dynamically, not merely as an attachment to the past, but also as a moral stance aligned with social reality and the continuity of life. In conclusion, Najib Mahfuz asserts that loyalty is a social value that is contextual in nature.
