Abstract

This study aims to reveal the forms of oppression in the short story Al-‘Iqab by Mustafa Lutfhi Al-Manfaluthi. The theory applied in this literary work is socialist realism from the perspective of George Lukács. This theory emphasizes the importance of reflecting social totality, class conflict, and historical consciousness in literature. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques consisting of reading, note-taking, and library research. The analysis was conducted by identifying, classifying, and interpreting narrative elements that reflect social structures and power dynamics. The findings show that the short story Al-‘Iqab represents five dialectically interconnected forms of oppression, namely: social class and injustice, economic exploitation, ideological domination, law as an instrument of oppression, and class consciousness and resistance. This work not only portrays the suffering of the people but also opens space for readers to critically understand social reality.
