The Dynamics of Seniority Culture in Shaping Female students' Discipline at Darul Iman Modern Islamic Boarding School, Kutacane, Southeast Aceh

The culture of seniority is one of the guidance systems implemented in Islamic boarding schools to foster discipline among female students through mentoring, setting a good example, and supervision. Nevertheless, various violations of school rules are still observed among female students, such as failing to participate in congregational prayer, causing disturbances during class, violating language usage regulations, and failing to maintain a clean environment. This study aims to To describe the culture of seniority in shaping discipline among female students at the Darul Iman Modern Islamic Boarding School in Kutacane, Southeast Aceh, and to analyze the factors that hinder the development of discipline among female students through the culture of seniority at the Darul Iman Modern Islamic Boarding School in Kutacane, Southeast Aceh. This study employed a qualitative approach and descriptive method, involving five informants consisting of two junior female students, two senior female students and one female instructor. The data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results of the study indicate that the culture of seniority plays a role in fostering discipline in the areas of safety, worship, instruction, language, and hygiene through habit formation, guidance, and setting a good example. The barriers identified include low self-awareness, peer group influence, inconsistent adherence to the seniority culture, boredom with the pesantren routine, and limited supervision by administrators and female teachers. This study concludes that the seniority culture is effective in instilling a disciplined character when applied consistently with the support of all elements of the pesantren.
