Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of group counseling services in improving the self-efficacy of students experiencing academic anxiety at MAS Ulumul Qur’an Pagar Air Banda Aceh. The study employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of four students with low self-efficacy, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a self-efficacy questionnaire based on the aspects of level, strength, and generality. Data analysis was conducted using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, paired sample t-test, and N-Gain with the assistance of IBM SPSS 22. The results showed that the mean pretest score of 54.00 increased to 82.17 in the posttest. The paired sample t-test yielded a significance value of 0.000 < 0.05, while the N-Gain score of 0.6107 or 61.07% was categorized as moderate. Therefore, group counseling services can be used as an effective approach to improve students’ self-efficacy in dealing with academic demands.
