Abstract

The rapid development of technology and social media platforms like TikTok has created new opportunities for students to practice English in informal, engaging ways. This study explores students‟ perceptions of using TikTok videos to supporttheir English speaking learning. A qualitative method was employed in this study.Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with five students fromthe English Language Education Department at UIN Ar-Raniry who haveexperience using TikTok for learning English speaking. The findings reveal thatstudents generally perceive TikTok as a helpful, accessible, and enjoyableplatform that exposes them to authentic English usage, improves theirpronunciation, vocabulary, and fluency, and increases their motivation andconfidence to speak. However, students also acknowledge several disadvantages, including distractions, inconsistent content quality, and lack of structuredfeedback. Despite these challenges, the study concludes that TikTok videos can bea valuable supplementary medium for enhancing English speaking skills whenused purposefully and critically. The results are expected to contribute to teachers, students, and future researchers interested in integrating social media platformsinto English language learning.
