Abstract

This research aimed to discover the perceived impact, strategies and challenges of International Class Program experienced by the students related to the improvement of their English speaking skills. The sample of this research were six students from International Class Program of Law Department in Syiah Kuala University. The qualitative approach was used to reveal students’ experiences. In collecting the data, interview was held both online and offline. Based on the findings, there are several perceived impacts revealed by the students that indicated their enhancement in English speaking skill, namely; 1) having excellent English presentation skill, 2) the improvement of English speaking score in IELTS, 3) the understanding of advance vocabulary. Regarding the strategies, there are four strategies implemented in International Class Program, namely; 1) the implementation of English as Medium of Instruction (EMI), 2) students’ participation in English program provided by ICP, 3) improving vocabulary through reading English learning material, 4) maintaining communication with International students. The last result was about challenges faced by the students, which there were two challenges, namely; 1) the use of legal English, 2) the lack of ability to speak English spontaneously
