This study is aimed to figure out the difficult topics in structure section of TOEFL and explore some factors affecting those difficulties. This study used purposive sampling with fifteen students of English Department in the last semester as the research participants. Two techniques of data collection were used in this research. The first technique was test given to fifteen students and the second technique was semi-structured interview based on Griffee (2012) which involved six students who produced the most errors in the test session. The finding of the current study indicated that the students faced the difficulties in some topics or elements assessed in structure and written expression section: relative clause, parallelism, subject-verb agreement, conjunction, reduced clause, determiner, compound-adjective and quantifier. Furthermore, there are six factors affecting students’ difficulties in answering TOEFL test in structure section: lack of practice, lack of grammar skill, lack of vocabulary, lack of time, low-self confidence and joining TOEFL training program.
