Abstract

Song lyrics can be more beautifully understood when they have figurative language in them. Therefore, it is necessary to find out the implied meaning in each lyric of the song. This research aims to discover the types of figurative language in three of Native Deen’s albums and then verify that types of figurative language are dominant in them. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method where the data is taken from 16 songs from 41 Native Deen songs on his three albums, namely Sakina, Dedication, Drug-free, Paradise, Test, Muslim, Zamilooni, Ta'la al Badru, Subhanallah, Rain Song, Still Strong, The Message, Be at the Top, My Faith My Voice, Only Fear Allah, and Gaza. The researcher found ten types of figurative language out of twelve in those albums. The results showed that there are 254 song lyrics containing ten types of figurative language, such as 30 similes, 15 metaphors, 13 paradoxes, 17 personifications, 9 synecdoches, 37 apostrophes, 68 symbols, 5 allegories, 46 metonymies, and 14 overstatements/hyperboles. Symbols are the dominant type in those albums, and by clarifying this type of figurative language, it becomes easy for us to catch the beautiful meaning implied in a song.
